Virginia Beach, Va. - The Farmingdale State softball team fell to #4 Moravian, 3-0, in their first game at the NCAA Regionals this afternoon. FSC dropped to 19-6 overall, while the Greyhounds improved to 31-1.

After Moravian sophomore Madison Hummel (Roselle Park, N.Y.) pitched a 1-2-3 top of the first, the Greyhounds used a pair of doubles in the bottom of the inning to take an early 1-0 advantage.

Still 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Farmingdale State freshman third baseman Brooke Walker (Westhampton, N.Y.) and sophomore right fielder Julianna Prescia (Oakdale, N.Y.) hit back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second with two outs. Hummel would force a ground out in the next at-bat to keep the Rams off the board.

With two outs in the top of the fifth, sophomore catcher Lyndsey Shaw (Sayville, N.Y.) hit a double and sophomore center fielder Priscilla Rivera (Brentwood, N.Y.) followed with a single. Hummel again stranded the runners as she forced a fly out.

Moravian tallied two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth. After an error extended the inning, sophomore shortstop Alexis Agrapides (Bayville, N.J.) hit a two-out, two run single to put the Greyhounds on top, 3-0.

FSC sophomore Christina Loeffler (East Meadow, N.Y.) pinch-hit to lead off the seventh and recorded a single, but Hummel set down the next three batters in order to secure the 3-0 victory for Moravian.

Walker led the way for FSC going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. Shaw had two hits, including a double, while Rivera, Prescia and Loeffler had one hit apiece.

Sophomore pitcher Allie Stanya (Babylon, N.Y.) (L, 13-3) suffered just her third loss of the season after throwing a complete game with just one earned run allowed.

Hummel tossed her fifth shutout of the season and improved to 15-1 for Moravian.

The Rams will now play host-school and #2 Nationally ranked Virginia Wesleyan (38-5-1) tomorrow, Saturday, May 22nd at 10:00 a.m. Follow along with the tournament page.
