Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team opened with a 3-1 win over #4 Mount Saint Mary in the first game of the Skyline Conference Championship.

After Rams' (16-4) sophomore pitcher Allie Stanya (Babylon, N.Y.) (W, 11-1, 7 IP, 6 H, 1 BB) stranded two MSMC (16-11) runners in the top of the first, sophomore catcher Lyndsey Shaw (Sayville, N.Y.) led off the bottom of the inning with a solo home run to right-center field to put FSC in front, 1-0.

The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning. Farmingdale State loaded the bases with one out and senior first baseman Jessica Lombardo (Levittown, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to score Stanya and give FSC a 2-0 advantage. The next batter, freshman third baseman Brooke Walker (Westhampton, N.Y.), hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score sophomore center fielder Priscilla Rivera (Brentwood, N.Y.) and put the Rams in front, 3-0.

In the top of the sixth, the Knights put runners on first and second with one out. Stanya forced the next two batters to ground out and pop out as she escaped the jam.

MSMC freshman third baseman Sofia Gannon (East Patchogue, N.Y.) led off the seventh with a double down the left field line. After a fly out, freshman center fielder Olivia Ferara (Middletown, N.Y.) singled to put runners on first and third. In the next at-bat, the Knights plated a run on a fielders choice. Stanya would allow an infield single before recording the final out to seal the 3-1 victory.

Shaw was 1-for-4 with a solo home run, while Stanya had two hits and scored a run. Lombardo and Walker each had a hit and an RBI in the win for the Rams.

The Knights were led by sophomore second baseman Alicia Killeen (Nesconset, N.Y.) and sophomore Samantha Bendig (Bellmore, N.Y.) who each had a team-high two hits.

FSC has advanced to day two and will play the winner of #2 Manhattanville/#3 St. Joseph's-LI tomorrow, Saturday May 15th at noon.
