Lombardo Hits Grand Slam in Conference Win at MSMC

Newburgh, N.Y. - Farmingdale State senior first baseman Jessica Lombardo (Brentwood, N.Y.) hit a grand slam in the third inning to lead the Rams to an 11-2 Skyline Conference victory over Mount Saint Mary in game one. The FSC softball team fell 11-6 in the non-conference second game this afternoon.

Tied 2-2 in the top of the second, FSC (12-4, 12-2 Skyline) used a Jessica Clark (Selden, N.Y.) 2 RBI double to center which scored Priscilla Rivera (Brentwood, N.Y.) and Lexie Collard (Deer Park, N.Y.) to go out in front, 4-2.

In the next inning, the Rams went ahead 6-0 after Rivera was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Clark hit an RBI single to left center. Lombardo followed with a grand slam to extend the lead to 10-2. In the next at-bat, freshman third baseman Brooke Walker (Westhampton, N.Y.) increased the lead to 11-2 with a solo home run to left field.

Farmingdale State went on for the 11-2 5-inning run-rule victory.

Lombardo finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, grand slam, 5 RBI and run scored, while Clark was 3-for-4 with a double, 3 RBI and two runs scored. Walker had two hits including a home run, two runs batted in and one run scored.

Sophomore Allie Stanya (Babylon, N.Y.) earned the win and improved to 9-1 after pitching four innings allowing zero earned runs on three hits with six strikeouts.

In game two, FSC trailed 4-3 with two outs in the top of the fourth until a bases clearing double by freshman pitcher Julia Pastrana (Central Islip, N.Y.) gave the Rams a one-run lead.

In the top of the fifth, Farmingdale State went up 6-4 on a Giana Galanoudis (Farmingdale, N.Y.) RBI single up the middle which scored Courtney Ludewig (Bethpage, N.Y.).

Mount Saint Mary (13-9, 11-7 Skyline) answered with five runs in the bottom of the fifth and two in the sixth en route to the 11-6 non-conference win.

Junior second baseman Amaris Negron (Central Islip, N.Y.) tallied a team-high three hits, while both Pastrana and Ludewig had two hits and 2 RBI.

For the Knights, freshman designated player Nicole Palmer (Monroe, N.Y.) was 4-for-5 with two doubles and a triple, two runs scored and a game-high five runs batted in.

Farmingdale State next will play host to Mount Saint Vincent in a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Saturday, May 8th at noon.
