Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team earned a Skyline Conference sweep of St. Joseph's-Long Island this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. FSC earned a 9-1 win in game one before defeating the Golden Eagles (7-3, 5-3 Skyline), 3-0, in the second game. With the victories, the Rams improved to 6-2 in conference play and have moved into a tie for first place in the Skyline.

In the bottom of the first inning of game one, FSC sophomore catcher Lyndsey Shaw (Sayville, N.Y.) led off with a base hit and scored on a two-out double by sophomore shortstop Jessica Clark (Selden, N.Y.) to go in front, 1-0.

The Rams extended their lead to 3-0 in the second inning. Freshman third baseman Brooke Walker (Westhampton, N.Y.) walked before freshman second baseman Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.) hit a double. Walker would score on a wild pitch and Capuano was driven in on a sacrifice bunt by junior left fielder Lexie Collard (Deer Park, N.Y.).

In the third, a hit-by-pitch, a bunt single and a pair of walks led to a St. Joseph's-Long Island run. With the bases loaded, Farmingdale State sophomore pitcher Allie Stanya (Babylon, N.Y.) recorded a strikeout to escape the jam.

Leading 3-1 with two outs in the bottom of the third, the Rams scored three times on four extra-base hits. Clark and Walker each hit triples before back-to-back doubles by Capuano and Stanya put Farmingdale State ahead, 6-1.

With runners on first and second in the fourth, Clark recorded a double to score Shaw and give FSC a 7-1 advantage. The next batter was Lombardo and she hit a sacrifice fly to center to score sophomore center fielder Priscilla Rivera (Brentwood, N.Y.) and take a seven-run lead. Walker would drive in the final run of the game as she tallied an RBI single to put Farmingdale State ahead, 9-1.

Stanya registered a 1-2-3 top of the fifth inning as the Rams went on for the 9-1 run-rule victory.

Walker led the way for FSC as she was 2-for-2 with two RBI's, two runs scored and a walk, while Clark had a double, triple, two runs scored and one run batted in. Lombardo finished with a double and two RBI's, Capuano had two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI, and Shaw went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Stanya (W, 4-1) earned the win allowing just three hits over five innings and striking out a season-high eight batters.

In the top of the first inning of game two, St. Joseph's-Long Island loaded the bases with no one out. Stanya would force a pop out before striking out the next batter. The Golden Eagles were then called for leaving the base early as FSC left the runners stranded.

FSC threatened in the bottom of the second as they loaded the bases with two outs, but SJC-LI freshman pitcher Julia Ruocchio (Massapequa, N.Y.) forced a groundout to keep the game scoreless.

The Rams broke through in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three times to take a 3-0 advantage. After Shaw and Rivera tallied back-to-back singles to leadoff the inning, Lombardo tallied an RBI single and sophomore right fielder Julianna Prescia (Oakdale, N.Y.) recorded a run-scoring groundout. The next batter was Walker and she hit an RBI single to center to give Farmingdale State the 3-0 lead.

Stanya (W, 5-1) kept the Golden Eagles off the board in the final two innings as she picked up the complete game shutout and her second victory of the day. She struck out 10 batters and allowed just four hits.

Lombardo and Walker finished with one hit and one RBI apiece, while Shaw and Rivera tallied one hit and one run each.

Farmingdale State next will travel to St. Joseph's-Long Island to finish up their four-game series tomorrow, Sunday, April 11th at noon.
