Stanya Tosses Shutout as Rams Split With Manhattanville

Purchase, N.Y. - Farmingdale State sophomore pitcher Allie Stanya (Babylon, N.Y.) tossed a complete game shutout in the opening game of today's Skyline Conference softball doubleheader at Manhattanville. The Rams earned a 6-0 win in game one before dropping the second game, 9-4.

In game one, the Rams (3-3, 3-2) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth on a 2 RBI double to left field by Stanya which scored Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.) and Gianna DiLillo (East Northport, N.Y.).

With one out and a runner on second in the top of the fifth, FSC increased the lead to 3-0 on a Jessica Lombardo (Levittown, N.Y.) RBI single to left. Freshman third baseman Brooke Walker (Westhampton, N.Y.) later scored on a passed ball to put Farmingdale State on top, 4-0.

In the top of the seventh, Lombardo hit a 2 RBI double through the right side and increased the advantage to 6-0.

Stanya allowed two hits in the bottom of the seventh but held Manhattanville (1-1, 1-1) scoreless as FSC recorded the 6-0 victory in the first game. Stanya (2-1) earned the win after allowing seven hits and striking out four.

Lombardo led the way after going 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and 3 RBI, while Walker and sophomore center fielder Priscilla Rivera (Brentwood, N.Y.) each had two hits.

In game two, the Rams scored once in the top of the third before the Valiants plated four runs in the bottom of the inning. Manhattanville's Sarah Harker (Irvine, Calif.) doubled to right center with one out to score a pair of runs and put the Valiants ahead, 2-1. In the next at-bat, Jaclyn DeLuca (Yonkers, N.Y.) doubled to left field which scored Harker and increased the lead to 3-1. Manhattanville's final run of the inning came on an Abby Tanuma (Chula Vista, Calif.) sacrifice fly.

Senior first baseman Brooke Franson (Newport Beach, Calif.) singled to lead off the bottom of the fifth and advanced to second with a stolen base. After Harker flied out, a DeLuca RBI single up the middle gave the Valiants a 5-1 advantage. Manhattanville went up by five after scoring an unearned run on an FSC throwing error.

In the top of the sixth, Farmingdale State scored two runs on a Rivera RBI single to third base and a bases loaded walk to Lombardo which cut the deficit to 6-3.

The Valiants quickly answered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to go ahead, 9-3.

FSC added one run in the final inning but fell, 9-4.

Sophomore right fielder Julianna Prescia (Oakdale, N.Y.) was 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI, while Rivera had two hits, including a double and a run scored. Sophomore pitcher Christina Loeffler (East Meadow, N.Y.) and junior second baseman Amaris Negron (Central Islip, N.Y.) each added two hits for the Rams.

For Manhattanville, Harker was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a game-high four RBI. Three other players recorded two hits in the victory.

FSC will host Manhattanville in the final two games of their four-game on Monday, at 4:00 p.m.
