Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team hosted St. Joseph's-Brooklyn for a doubleheader this afternoon and dropped both games. The Bears earned a 6-2 win in game one before defeating the Rams, 1-0, in the second game. The Rams fell to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play as today's second game was non-conference.

In game one, FSC took a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the second on an SJC-BK (2-2, 1-2 Skyline) throwing error.

The Bears responded in the next half inning by scoring five times to take a four-run advantage. With one out and a runner on second, junior third baseman Ashleigh Hartwig (Santee, Calif.) hit an RBI double to knot the game at 1-1. Leading 2-1, after Hartwig scored on a Rams error, Casey Bennett (Sacramento, Calif.) walked to drive in a run. Two batters later, junior left fielder Vivian Tomovich (San Diego, Calif.) recorded a two-run single up the middle to put the Bears in front, 5-1.

Farmingdale State closed within three in the bottom of the sixth inning after sophomore catcher Lyndsey Shaw (Sayville, N.Y.) hit a leadoff triple and scored on a single from sophomore center fielder Priscilla Rivera (Brentwood, N.Y.).

St. Joe's quickly answered in the top of the seventh as Hartwig notched an RBI single to regain a four-run advantage.

FSC was held scoreless in the bottom of the inning by junior Jessica Mecham (West Jordan, Utah) (W, 1-1) who picked up the complete game victory.

The Rams were led by Rivera, who tallied two hits and one run batted in. Shaw and freshman third baseman Brooke Walker (Westhampton, N.Y.) had one hit and one run scored apiece.

Hartwig went 3-for-4 with two RBI's and a run scored for the Bears.

The lone run of the second game came in the top of the fourth inning. St. Joseph's-Brooklyn junior shortstop Alexis Buchanan (Murrieta, Calif.) reached on an error, stole second base and scored on a double by freshman first baseman Brianna Kilimet (Valley Stream, N.Y.).

Tomovich (2.0 IP), sophomore Sierra Bedrin (Rocklin, Calif.) (W, 1-0, 2.0 IP) and junior Gabriella Salvador (Staten Island, N.Y.) (Sv, 1, 3.0 IP) combined for the shutout as they held the Rams to just three hits.
