Comeback Win Leads Rams to Sweep of St. Joe's-Brooklyn

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team swept St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in a Skyline Conference doubleheader this afternoon. The Rams earned a 4-2 final inning comeback victory in the opener and followed with a 7-1 win in the second game. The doubleheader was held at Farmingdale State but St. Joseph's-Brooklyn was the home team.

Trailing 2-1 with two outs and the bases empty in the top of the seventh, junior left fielder Lexie Collard (Deer Park, N.Y.) and sophomore catcher Lyndsey Shaw (Sayville, N.Y.) registered back-to-back singles. Sophomore center fielder Priscilla Rivera (Brentwood, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single through the right side to tie the game at 2-2. In FSC's next at-bat, sophomore shortstop Jessica Clark (Selden, N.Y.) singled up the middle to send Shaw around to score and put the Rams on top, 3-2. Farmingdale State added an unearned run and took a 4-2 advantage into the bottom of the seventh.

Sophomore pitcher Allie Stanya (Babylon, N.Y.) retired the first two batters in the seventh before an Alexis Buchanan (Murrieta, Calif.) single to center. Stanya struck out the next batter to seal the 4-2 game one victory for FSC.

Rivera was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, run scored and RBI, while Clark had two hits and two runs batted in. Shaw went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.

Stanya (1-0) recorded the win after allowing one earned run on five hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings pitched.

For SJC-BK, junior pitcher Jessica Mecham (West Jordan, Utah) registered a team-high two hits.

Leading 1-0 in the top of the third inning of game two, Collard hit a one-out single to right field. Shaw doubled to right center and advanced to third on a throwing error as Collard scored to put the Rams ahead, 2-0. Shaw would later score on a wild pitch to increase the advantage to 3-0.

In the top of the fourth, Farmingdale State plated a pair of runs to go out in front, 5-0. Collard notched an RBI single and Rivera was hit by a pitch with bases loaded.

After the Bears scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth, the Rams added two in the fifth as they went on for the 7-1 victory and doubleheader sweep.

Freshman third baseman Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.) led the way for FSC after going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, triple, run scored, stolen base and 2 RBI. Collard added two hits, a run scored and RBI in the win.

Sophomore pitcher Christina Loeffler (East Meadow, N.Y.) tossed a complete game allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts.

The Rams next will host St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in a doubleheader tomorrow (Sunday, March 21st) at noon.
