Kissimmee, Fla. - The FSC softball team concluded their spring break trip with six more games at The Spring Games down in Florida from March 20th-22nd.
Wednesday, March 20th
On Wednesday, the Rams dropped a game to Rowan, 3-1, before falling against McDaniel, 5-4, in nine innings.
The Rams only managed three hits against the Profs, including a run-scoring double from junior first baseman Jessica Lombardo (Levittown, N.Y.).
Rowan sophomore Emily August (Mahwah, N.J.) (1-0) earned the win after tossing 3.2 scoreless innings in relief.
In the second game against McDaniel, Farmingdale State jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one inning. With two outs in the bottom of the first, senior third baseman Sierra Cardenales (Patchogue, N.Y.) and sophomore second baseman Amaris Negron (Central Islip, N.Y.) tallied back-to-back RBI's before freshman first baseman Sabrina Snyder (Brentwood, N.Y.) hit a two-run single to give FSC a 4-0 edge.
The Green Terror chipped away at the Rams lead, tallying runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings to knot the game at 4-4.
The game remained 4-4 until the top of the ninth inning when McDaniel used a sacrifice bunt and a run-scoring groundout to take a 5-4 lead.
The Rams were set down in order in the bottom of the inning as the Green Terror went on for the 5-4 nine-inning victory.
Cardenales, freshman shortstop Julianna Prescia (Oakdale, N.Y.) and junior catcher Courtney Ludewig (Bethpage, N.Y.) each recorded two hits in the loss. Farmingdale State sophomore Madeleine Smith (San Diego, Calif.) (0-3) took the loss, pitching a complete game and only allowing seven hits.
Thursday, March 21st
FSC fell to both Cobleskill (6-0) and Western New England (5-4, F/8) on Thursday.
Fighting Tigers' sophomore Rachel Hall (Greenwich, N.Y.) (1-3) picked up the complete game shutout over Farmingdale State in the first game.
Rams' sophomore left fielder Lexie Collard (Deer Park, N.Y.) was 2-for-3 at the plate.
Trailing 1-0 against the Golden Bears in their second game of the day, Farmingdale State tallied three straight RBI singles in the top of the fourth to take a 3-1 advantage. Western New England would answer with three runs in the bottom of the inning to go in front, 4-3.
FSC would later tie the score on an RBI single by freshman shortstop Jessica Clark (Selden, N.Y.) to send the game into extra innings.
After the Rams were held scoreless in the top of the eighth, the Golden Bears earned the 5-4 walk-off victory on a Farmingdale State throwing error.
Clark finished 2-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in, while Smith produced two hits and one RBI. Freshman center fielder Mirren O'Mahony (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Negron each had one hit and one run scored.
Friday, March 22nd
On their final day, Farmingdale State lost by two runs to both Allegheny (6-4) and Kalamazoo (5-3).
Tied 1-1 in the third, the Gators took a 3-1 advantage on a two-run homerun by sophomore catcher Hayley Behr (Pittsburgh, Penn.).
Leading 4-2, Allegheny extended their lead with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to go up by four.
The Rams would tally a two-run double by Lombardo in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to push across another run as they fell, 6-4.
As the designated player, Smith was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with one run scored, while Collard walked and scored twice. Lombardo registered three RBI's in the loss.
Trailing 1-0 versus Kalamazoo, FSC used two RBI singles in the top of the second by Cardenales and freshman catcher Jackie Nieman (Seaford, N.Y.) to go in front, 2-1.
Hornets' senior second baseman Hayleigh Alamo (Colorado Springs, Colo.) responded in the bottom of the third with a two-run homerun to left field to take a 3-2 lead.
Kalamazoo would add two runs in the bottom of the fifth as they went on for the 5-3 victory.
Cardenales led the way for Farmingdale State with two hits, a walk, one RBI and one run scored.
For the trip, Smith hit .455 (5-for-11) at the plate and pitched to a 3.98 earned run average in 31.2 innings pitched. Cardenales tallied a team-high six RBI's, while Collard held a .415 on-base percentage.
