Rams Cruise Past Yeshiva in Doubleheader Sweep

Bronx, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team earned a pair of five-inning run-rule victories over Yeshiva University in a Skyline Conference doubleheader last night at Fordham. The Rams earned a 26-3 win in game one and followed with a 12-1 victory in the second game.

In game one, FSC (8-12, 4-0) recorded 18 hits and was led by sophomore pitcher Julia Walpole (Mahopac, N.Y.) who was 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of 3-run home runs, two runs scored and game-high 7 RBI. Freshman left fielder Lexie Collard (Deer Park, N.Y.) had three hits, including a home run, scored four runs and had 4 RBI, while freshman shortstop Amaris Negron (Islip, N.Y.) was 3-for-3 with a home run, four runs scored and 4 RBI. Sophomore second baseman Jessica Lombardo (Levittown, N.Y.) and freshman third baseman Kayla Nuñez (Bay Shore, N.Y.) each had two hits in the victory.

Walpole (3-2) earned the win after tossing a complete game, allowing three runs on three hits with eight strikeouts.

For Yeshiva (1-10, 0-4), freshman shortstop Basya Goldstein (Teaneck, N.J.) recorded two of the teams three hits.

In game two, the Rams scored in each of the five innings, including five runs in the top of the third en route to the 12-1 victory.

FSC freshman third baseman Gabby Gusmano (Bethpage, N.Y.) recorded a game-high three hits and had three runs batted in, while sophomore left fielder Cathleen Cassese (Bethpage, N.Y.) was 2-for-3 with a triple, three runs scored and 2 RBI. Sophomore center fielder Ginger Sherry (Islip, N.Y.), sophomore right fielder Sabrina Bencivenga (Sayville, N.Y.), freshman shortstop Shannon Durham (Mineola, N.Y.) and freshman second baseman Brianna Trovato (Deer Park, N.Y.) had two hits apiece for Farmingdale State.

Junior Jaxie Collard (Deer Park, N.Y.) earned the win after pitching a perfect three innings with three strikeouts.

FSC next will host non-conference opponent Stockton for a doubleheader on Thursday, April 12th at 3:00 p.m.
