Newburgh, N.Y. - In the first game of the Skyline Conference Softball Championship at Mount Saint Mary this morning, #4 Farmingdale State defeated #5 Mount Saint Vincent, 3-0. The Rams (22-17) advance to the double-elimination format and will square off against top-seeded Mount Saint Mary (24-12) later today at 1:30 p.m.
In the bottom of the first, sophomore right field Alexa Luna (Martin County, Fla.) led off with a walk and advanced to second on a Christina Rayfield (Commack, N.Y.) bunt single to the pitcher. In the third, Farmingdale State sophomore third baseman Sierra Cardenales (Patchogue, N.Y.) led off with a double to left center and moved to third base on a wild pitch. In the next at-bat, Michalowski hit an RBI single to increase the lead to 2-0.
After a one-out Crawford triple in the bottom of the fifth, freshman catcher Kimberly Basile (Levittown, N.Y.) followed with a sacrifice fly to put FSC out in front, 3-0.
The Dolphins were held to one hit over the final two innings as the Rams earned the 3-0 victory.
