#1 Mount Saint Mary - 4, #5 Farmingdale State - 3
Newburgh, N.Y. - The fifth-seeded Farmingdale State softball team fell in extra innings today, 4-3, against top-seeded Mount Saint Mary College (20-10). The Rams (15-17) now face #2 seed The Sage Colleges (25-14) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in an elimination game. The winner will advance to the 4:00 p.m. game, against the loser of #1 Mount Saint Mary/#3 Mount Saint Vincent.
Farmingdale State got on the board in the second inning with an RBI double to left center by senior right fielder Meghan Acton (Levittown, N.Y.) to score Marietta Silliman (Hauppauge, N.Y.).
In the bottom of the third with two runners on base, Mount Saint Mary's pitcher Cindy Connoly (Walden, N.Y.) homered to right field to give the Knights a 3-1 lead.
The Rams tied the game in the top of the fifth, 3-3, when senior catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) knocked a two-RBI homerun to left field (her sixth HR of the season).
Farmingdale State stranded two runners on base in the eighth inning, while the Knights left one runner on.
In the bottom of the ninth, Mount Saint Mary loaded the bases with a hit, an error and a walk, while the winning run would score on a fielding error.
Farmingdale State pitcher Jaxie Collard (Deer Park, N.Y.) allowed just five hits and two earned runs in the loss.
