Troy, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team recorded a 5-1 win in the first game before falling 10-1 in game two of a Skyline Conference doubleheader at Sage on Saturday.
The Rams (6-10, 4-2) opened the scoring in the top of the first with an RBI double to right field by freshman shortstop Christina Rayfield (Commack, N.Y.). In FSC's next at-bat, senior right fielder Meghan Acton (Levittown, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single to increase the Farmingdale State lead to 2-0. The Rams went ahead 4-0 after freshman center fielder Aleysha Midgett's (Huntington, N.Y.) 2 RBI double to center which scored both Rayfield and Acton.
Both FSC and Sage added one run in the fifth as the Rams earned a 5-1 victory in game one.
Seven players tallied a hit for Farmingdale State highlighted by senior catcher Meagan Anderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) who was 1-for-3 with a home run. Freshman pitcher Jaxie Collard (Deer Park, N.Y.) recorded the win after a complete game allowing one run on seven hits.
In game two, the Rams took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on an RBI groundout by junior first baseman Lori Michalowski (Lindenhurst, N.Y.).
In the bottom of the third, the Gators (10-10, 5-1) went ahead 2-1 on a Kiersten Duncan (Millerton, N.Y.) 2 RBI double to center. Courtney Laughlin (Cohoes, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single to left in Sage's next at-bat to put the Gators ahead, 3-1.
Sage added a run in the fifth and six in the sixth en route to the 10-1 run-rule victory.
Michalowski was 1-for-2 with an RBI for the Rams.
The Gators were led by Duncan who was 4-for-4 with a run scored and 3 RBI, while Laughlin had three hits, a run batted in and scored a run.
The FSC softball team next will travel to Yeshiva for a conference DH on Friday, April 8th at 12:45 p.m.
