Softball has Seven Players Named All-Skyline

- Zino, Walker, Snyder, Farber, Flint, Jarczynski and Keenen named All-Conference -

The Skyline Conference released the 2011 All-Conference Softball selections on Wednesday, May 4th. Sophomore first baseman Corine Fitzgibbons of NYU-Poly has been named the 2011 Skyline Softball Player of the Year in voting conducted by the league's eight head coaches.

The Skyline coaches also selected Hope Zino of Farmingdale State as Pitcher of the Year, Old Westbury's Jennifer Jean as Rookie of the Year and Mary Jo Fazio of Old Westbury as Coach of the Year. In addition, Old Westbury received the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Fitzgibbons ranks among the top five of the Conference in seven different offensive categories, including slugging percentage (2nd - .822), walks (2nd – 24), doubles (2nd – 14) and on-base percentage (3rd - .528). The Brooklyn, N.Y., native leads the league with nine home runs and is tied for first in RBI (44) while boasting a .416 batting average.

A six-time Pitcher of the Week selection this season, Zino enters the upcoming NCAA Tournament with a sparkling 20-1 record, 19 complete games, 10 shutouts and a 1.20 earned run average. The junior right hander from Bay Shore, N.Y., has fanned 178 batters in 134 innings pitched while limiting opposing hitters to a .174 batting average. Zino was recently named

the Most Valuable Player of the 2011 Skyline Championship after posting a 3-0 mark in leading Farmingdale State to its second crown in three seasons.

Jean has enjoyed a strong freshman campaign for Old Westbury in 2011, leading the team in RBI (32), doubles (10), home runs (four), slugging percentage (.648) and total bases (57). Twice named the Skyline Rookie of the Week, the outfielder from Levittown, N.Y., has a .375 batting average and is also a first-team All-Conference selection.

Fazio earns Coach of the Year distinction for the second time in her five-year career after leading the Panthers to their third consecutive 20-win season and a second place regular-season finish with an 11-3 record in Skyline play. A graduate of Hofstra University, Fazio has a career record of 85-82.

The All-Conference first-team consists Farmingdale State's Nicole Farber, Kristen Flint, Jennifer Jarczynski, Kaitlin Keenan, Madison Snyder and Aubrey Walker; Jean, Alyssa Clancy, Nicole Petrucci and Samantha Siegler of Old Westbury; Mount Saint Mary's Lacey Kehlenbeck; and Megan Moran of NYU-Poly.

The second-team All-Conference teammates Julia De Carmine, Gina Moscatelli and Erica Stark of St. Joseph's-L.I.; Mount Saint Mary's Jackie Governale, Chelsea Hepburn, Sarah Johnson, Caitlin Maynes and Brittany O'Brien; Old Westbury's Nicole Petrucci; and Christi Bruin and Sadie Hoeshen of NYU-Poly.
