Buckshaw and Zino Strikeout the Bears

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team swept non-conference opponent St. Joe's Brooklyn today with 8-0 and 2-0 victories in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams (27-5) won game one in five innings, before defeating Bears junior pitcher Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, N.Y.) for the first time this season. Chiaramonte is now 11-1 overall this year.
Junior pitcher Hope Zino (Bay Shore, N.Y.) struck out 14-of-15 batters in game one, striking out the side in the first three innings, nine straight strikeouts. Zino recorded all 15 outs in the game, catching a pop up in the fourth inning, before posting five more K's for the final five outs. Her perfect game was spoiled in the fifth with a double to right field, the only hit of the game.
The Rams held a 3-0 lead after the first on four hits, before adding three more in the fourth and two in the fifth to take the eight-run win, ending the game by the mercy rule. Sophomore third baseman Kristen Flint (Brentwood, N.Y.) went 3-for-3 with two RBI's and one run scored. Junior left fielder Rebecca Richman (West Islip, N.Y.) finished 2-for-3 with two RBI's and one run scored.
In game two, senior pitcher Heather Buckshaw (Oakdale, N.Y.) allowed just three hits and struck out eight in a 2-0 victory, improving her overall record this season to 10-3. The Bears had two runners on in the seventh inning with one out, but Buckshaw struck out the final two batters to secure the win.
Farmingdale State went up 1-0 in the first, on an RBI single up the middle by senior shortstop Nicole Farber (Oakdale, N.Y.) to score Richman from second. The Bears would hold the score at 1-0, before an RBI triple to right by junior first baseman Aubrey Walker (West Babylon, N.Y.) would score Richman from first for the 2-0 lead.
The Rams will now host Baruch College in a non-conference doubleheader on Friday, April 22nd at 3:00 p.m. It will be Senior Day for Buckshaw and Farber.
