Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team split a non-conference doubleheader today with the College of Staten Island (16-9). The Rams (25-5) won the first game 8-0 in five innings, before falling 6-0 in game two.

Junior pitcher Hope Zino (Bay Shore, N.Y.) allowed just three hits in game one as Farmingdale posted 13 hits, including three doubles and a homerun. The Rams got on the board in the second inning for a 2-0 lead, on a two RBI double to left center by junior left fielder Rebecca Richman (West Islip, N.Y.). In the third, senior shortstop Nicole Farber (Oakdale, N.Y.) opened the inning with a first pitch solo homerun for the 3-0 lead, before the Rams added four more runs that inning to make it 7-0.

The fourth and fifth innings were scoreless, before a single to right field in the bottom of the sixth by sophomore third baseman Kristen Flint (Brentwood, N.Y.) would score Richman from second to give the Rams an 8-0 win. Richman finished the game 3-for-3 with a walk, 3 RBI's and one run scored. Farber went 3-for-4 with one run scored.

Junior pitcher Danielle Ponsiglione (Staten Island, N.Y.) fell to 8-4 overall this season with the loss, walking her first two batters of the year and striking out five. Zino improved to 15-1 overall in the victory, with no walks in 21 batters faced.

The Dolphins came back in game two with a big second inning to take a 4-0 lead and scored one run in both the third and fourth for the 6-0 advantage. Freshman pitcher Stefanie Solari (Old Bridge, N.J.) held the Rams to seven hits with seven runners left on base. She improves to 2-2 with the win. Senior pitcher Heather Buckshaw (Oakdale, N.Y.) fell to 9-3 in the loss, striking out three and walking one on eight hits.

Farmingdale's Flint had a day at third base, with 3 putouts, 6 assists and no errors, along with going 4-for-6 at the plate.

The Rams will host St. Joe's Brooklyn tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, April 20th in a non-conference doubleheader at 3:30 p.m.
