Game One: Farmingdale State - 3, Nazareth College - 1

Game Two: Farmingdale State - 13, Framingham State - 5

Kissimmee, Fla. - The Farmingdale State softball team improved to 3-1 overall with two wins on day two of their spring trip to the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida. The Rams defeated Nazareth 3-1, before run-ruling Framingham State 13-5 in six innings.

In game one, both teams combined for just four hits in a pitchers duel that saw 11 strikeouts per team. Junior pitcher Hope Zino (Bay Shore, N.Y.) came away with her second victory of the season (2-0), as her team defeated the 2010 Empire 8 Pitcher of the Year, junior Kelly Kocher.

The Rams scored three runs in the bottom of the second, taking a 3-0 lead, with a walk by Kristen Flint and a double to left field by Jennifer Jarczinski (West Babylon, N.Y.) to bring Flint around the bases. Sophomore catcher Christine Watson (Holtsville, N.Y.) drew a walk to put two runners on, before an error by the center fielder on a Kaitlin Keenan (West Islip, N.Y.) shot to center would allow to more runs to score.

The next four innings were scoreless, as Zino increased her strikeout total to nine after six innings (striking out the side in the sixth). Nazareth got a run back in the top of the seventh inning on two hits and one error, but Zino struck out two more batters for the final two outs and the victory. Zino is the school record holder with 15 strikeouts in a game.

In game two, Farmingdale State scored 13 runs on 14 hits and two errors, ending the game after six innings due to the mercy rule, which is used if one team is ahead by at least eight runs after five innings.

Senior shortstop Nicole Farber (Oakdale, N.Y.) knocked in five of the first seven runs of the game, with a two-RBI single in the first inning to give the Rams a 2-0 lead, followed by a three-RBI bases clearing triple in the second inning to make it 6-0. Junior first baseman Aubrey Walker (West Babylon, N.Y.) knocked in the seventh run of the game with a double to center field.

Framingham got a run back in the bottom of the second, 7-1 Farmingdale, but junior second baseman Madison Snyder (Medford, N.Y.) doubled down the right field line in the third inning to bring in two more runs, 9-1 Rams. Framingham scored four more over the next two innings and another three Farmingdale runs would make it 12-5 after four innings. The Rams scored the final run in the sixth and would hold Framingham scoreless to take the eight run win.

Freshmen catcher Amanda Morelli (Bohemia, N.Y.) and designated hitter Dina Buckshaw (Oakdale, N.Y.) were the rookie starters today. Morelli went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Buckshaw finished 1-for-3 with one run scored and a walk.

Senior pitcher Heather Buckshaw (Oakdale, N.Y.) threw six innings for the win (1-1) on seven hits, four earned runs and two strikeouts.

The Rams will now face Utica College at 9:00 a.m. and Westminster at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 14th.
