Rams Fall to Rowan in NCAA First Round Game

Mahwah, N.J. - The Farmingdale State softball team fell 7-1 to Rowan University today, in the first round of the Division III NCAA Softball Tournament. The Rams will play tomorrow facing the loser of Muhlenberg/William Paterson at 1:00 p.m..

Farmingdale falls to 32-5 with the loss, while Rowan improves to 33-10 and moves on to play the winner of Muhlenberg/William Paterson on Friday at 5:00 p.m.

The Rams took a 1-0 lead after the first inning, after a leadoff double by freshman center fielder Kaitlin Keenan (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip). Freshman left fielder Rebecca Richman (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) advanced on a hit by pitch, followed by a walk from freshman first baseman Aubrey Walker (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon). A wild pitch scored Keenan for the 1-0 advantage.

Rowan would score a run in both the second and third to take over the lead, 2-1, and added three more runs in the fifth inning to go ahead 5-1. They held Farmingdale scoreless throughout the final six innings and went on for the victory.

Amanda Singer pitched the win for Rowan, improving to 14-5 on the season, striking out nine batters and allowing no earned runs in six innings pitched.

Freshman Hope Zino (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) went six innings in just her second loss of the season, with 10 K's.
