Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State softball team improved to 25-3, 8-0 in the Skyline Conference with this afternoon's sweep of Old Westbury. Sophomore pitcher Heather Buckshaw (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) allowed only one run and two hits, while striking out seven, earning the game one win for the Rams. Freshman pitcher Hope Zino (Bayshore, N.Y./Bay Shore) improved to 12-0 on the season with her complete game two hit shutout in the second game of the doubleheader.

In game one, Farmingdale State opened the bottom of the third with a Rebecca Richman (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) single, followed by an RBI triple from freshman first baseman Aubrey Walker (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon). The Rams would extend their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth on a Richman two RBI single. Freshman infielder Ashley Bozzo (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) scored the Panthers only run on a homerun in the top of the seventh.

Richman led Farmingdale with two runs batted in and one run scored. Designated hitter Shannon Scudder (Seaford, N.Y./MacArthur) and center fielder Kaitlin Keenen (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) each had two hits for the Rams. Buckshaw improved to 11-3 on the season.

In game two, Zino set a new school record with her 14 strikeout performance, passing teammate Buckshaw and Ashley Kenney who had set the previous mark with 10 strikeouts in a single game. Buckshaw struck out 10 batters in 2008, while Kenney set the mark in 2004. Zino took a no-hitter into the sixth inning until senior outfielder Traci Weeks singled to open the inning.

Farmingdale State was led by walker who was 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI and one run scored. Keenan was 2-for-3 with two runs, while sophomore catcher Arielle Morelli (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot) had one run batted in and one run scored in the 6-0 shutout win for the Rams.

Farmingdale State next will host Skyline Conference opponent Sage in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 18th at 1:00pm.
