Cross Country Teams Each Place Third at Purchase Invitational

PURCHASE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College men's and women's cross country teams each placed third Saturday morning at the Purchase College Invitational, with a pair of Rams leading the way individually with second-place finishes in their respective races.

On the women's side, senior Alycia Haynes (Adams Center, N.Y.) registered a second-place showing, and was the top NCAA Division III finisher on the 5,000-meter loop with a time of 20:46.1. Junior Jillian Kosky (Merrick, N.Y.) picked up 19th-place points with her 26:34.4 run, while sophomore Gianna Scibelli (No. Babylon, N.Y.) was one place behind Kosky with her time of 26:50.5.

In the men's 8,000-meter event, FSC senior Matthew Calogianes (Deer Park, N.Y.) was also the top Division III runner to cross the finish line, completing his race in a time of 28:24.3. Sophomores Jonathan Engelhardt (Kings Park, N.Y.) and Patrick Vierling (Deer Park, N.Y.) secured 18th (31:25.2) and 19th-place (32:37.9) points for the Rams, respectively.

Head coach Daniela Georgieva's Farmingdale State teams are back in action on Sunday, Sept. 25, when they travel to Milton, N.Y., to compete in the Mount Saint Mary College Invitational. The women's race is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start, while the men's race will commence at noon.
