Men's and Women's Cross Country Season Recap


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The men’s and women’s cross country teams placed fourth and sixth, respectively at the Skyline Conference Championship held at Van Cortlandt Park.

Senior Sean Tiernan (Staten Island, N.Y.) captured his second consecutive Skyline Championship and earned Runner of the Year honors as he finished the 8,000-meter course in 27:39.06. Freshman William Frederic (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished in 10th place and was named Second Team All-Conference and Rookie of the Year.

For the women, sophomore Melissa Bonilla (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) earned Second Team All-Skyline honors with a ninth place finish at the conference championship.

Tiernan also captured the St. Joseph’s Invitational finishing first out of 167 runners and along with Bonilla were the Rams leading runners for Farmingdale State at the Highlander Invitational, the CW Post Invite and the ECAC Championships.

Tiernan finished the season by placing 52nd out of 300 runners at the NCAA Regionals and also earned the 2011 Division III All-Academic Honor for cross country.
