2010 Cross Country Season Recap

- Men finish 3rd and women finish 6th in Skyline -


Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Farmingdale State men’s and women’s cross country teams finished in third and sixth place respectively in the Skyline Conference this season.

The men’s team had three players place in the top-10 and earn All-Skyline Conference honors. Junior Sean Tiernan (Staten Island, N.Y.), the Skyline Conference Runner of the Year, captured the individual championship with a time of 27:16.10, finishing 47 seconds ahead of the next runner. Junior Sean Daly (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) also received First Team All-Skyline honors after finishing in fourth place at the Championship, while senior Tim Flynn (Smithtown, N.Y.) earned Second Team honors with his ninth place finish.

Tiernan led the Rams to a second place finish out of 15 competing teams at the Knight Invitational. Tiernan won the individual title as he set the course record finishing in an impressive 28:09.1. Flynn finished in eighth place and junior Russell Darress (Lynbrook, N.Y.) took tenth at the event.

Tiernan ran an 8K personal best (26:09.45) at the Highlander Invitational, as he was the top Division III runner. Three other Farmingdale State runners set personal bests at the meet, including Flynn (27:46.28), Darress (28:48.57) and Adam Sadler (29:09.51).

The Rams finished third in the field of 22 teams at the St. Joseph’s College Invite held at Sunken Meadow State Park. Tiernan’s fourth place finish in a time of 27:38.8 put him into the Farmingdale State record books in 24th place all-time on the Sunken Meadow Course. 

Senior Mary Orobona (Farmingdale, N.Y.) led the women’s team at the Skyline Championship as she finished in 10th place individually, earning Second Team All-Skyline Conference honors. Freshman Jessica Josema (Medford, N.Y.) took 22nd place individually at the Championship for Farmingdale State.

Orobona led the women’s team to an eighth place finish at the Highlander Invitational as she ran a personal best 21:09.71. All of Farmingdale’s runners set personal best times at the event (Josema, Marjorie Diemicke, Katherine Monti, Estella Sanchez, Lauren Neuwirth, Nicole Zarek).

Senior Nicole Zarek (Massapequa, N.Y.), in her last competition, finished in 75th place at the Skyline Championship.  

The men’s team finished in 15th place out of 44 teams at the ECAC Championships, while the women’s team took 32nd. The men finished in 23rd place at the NCAA Regional Championship, the best finish in school history and the women took 32nd in their first-ever appearance at the event. 

The Rams look for continued in the upcoming 2011 season.
