Newburgh, N.Y. - Junior Sean Tiernan (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) led the men' s cross country team to a 2nd place overall finish by winning the 8K Knight Invitational in a course record, 28:09.1, this past Saturday at Chadwick Lake State Park in Newburgh, N.Y.

Tiernan took the lead at the mile and vanquished the top competitors from Union College and Hunter College by 47 seconds and 1:35, respectively. The previous course record was 28:45.27, which was set last year. Senior Tim Flynn (Smithtown, N.Y./St. Anthony's) finished 8th place overall with a time of 30:09.1 and junior Russell Daress (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) finished 10th in 30:21.3 in the field of 103 runners.

Senior Mary Orobona (Farmingdale, N.Y./Kellenberg) led the women's team for the third meet, placing 20th in 23:36.2. Freshman Jessica Josema (Medford, N.Y./Pathchogue-Medford) placed 31st in 24:40.9 to aid the scoring. The women's team placed 9th out of 13 teams and a field of 103 runners.
