Russell Wins Heptathlon, Haynes Sets 800m Record at NJAC Championship

Ewing, N.J. - The Farmingdale State men's and women's outdoor track and field teams traveled to The College of New Jersey for the NJAC Championships on Sunday and Monday and both came in ninth place. The women's team earned 21.5 points, while the men captured 15 points. Host-school TCNJ took the women's championship with 245 points and Rowan cruised to a win on the men's side with 300 points.

Junior Emily Russell (Southold, N.Y.) claimed FSC's lone victory in the heptathlon, scoring 3,965 points in the seven events. Her mark is a career-best, ranks third all-time in Farmingdale State program history and sits atop the NCAA Division III Metro Region leaderboard.

Also for the women, junior Alycia Haynes (Adams Center, N.Y.) broke the school record and tallied six points (3rd of 22 competitors) in the 800m in a time of 2:20.01. Sandra Paritti had held the record since 1988 (2:22.68).

Senior Amira Kemp (Copiague, N.Y.) picked up a point in the 100m hurdles. She finished in eighth place with a time of 17.59.

Senior Khadia Jenkins (Farmingdale, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for the Rams with 4.5 points in the high jump. Jenkins posted a height of 1.50m (4' 11") and tied for fourth place.

In addition, freshman Alexxis McNeil (Valley Stream, N.Y.) set a personal-best time of 12.90 in the 100m dash and came in 11th place. Her time ranks eighth all-time at Farmingdale State.

For the men, freshman Robert Kalinowski (Farmingdale, N.Y.) earned eight points as he placed second in the decathlon. He finished with 4,633 points across the ten events and moved into eighth all-time at FSC.

Senior Joseph Stocken VI (Miller Place, N.Y.) picked up five points for the Rams. He set a personal-best time of 15.94 in the 110m hurdles preliminaries and followed with a matching time in the finals for sixth place overall and three points. In the 400m hurdles, Stocken VI notched a career-best mark of 56.98 to earn his spot in the finals. He then placed seventh in 57.29 to earn two more points for Farmingdale State.

Junior Rodney Jerome (Westbury, N.Y.) competed in both hurdles events and set personal-best times in each. In the 110m hurdles, he ran the preliminaries in 15.67 and followed with a 15.98 in the finals to capture seventh place and a pair of points for FSC. In the 400m hurdles, he set a personal-best time of 1:00.05.

Also for the Rams, junior Morris Johnson (Binghamton, N.Y.) placed 16th in the 100m dash in a career-best time of 11.44.

In the long jump, freshman Jovany Philippe (Huntington, N.Y.) took 10th with a mark of 6.58m (21' 7.25").

Freshman Steven Grannis (Farmingdale, N.Y.) (34.68m / 113' 9") and junior Alexander Cruz-Reyes (Farmingdale, N.Y.) (34.15m / 112') captured 10th and 12th, respectively, in the hammer throw.

Farmingdale State will next head to the All-Atlantic Region Championships at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Jerome (110m Hurdles) and Stocken VI (400m Hurdles) qualified for the men, while Haynes (800m), Jenkins (High Jump) and Russell (High Jump & Heptathlon) will compete for the women.
