Rams Win 11 Events at USMMA 5-Way Meet


Kings Point, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's outdoor track team competed in the USMMA 5-Way Meet on Sunday, April 23rd. The Rams won 11 events for a 1st place team finish and 253 total points, along with claiming the top three spots in five events, including the 100m, 200m, Discus, Shot Put and Hammer.

In the 100m, the Rams took 1st (Chad George, 11.04), 2nd (Anthony Miller Jr., 11.06) and 3rd place (Philip Sellitto, 11.09). All three times were ECAC qualifiers.

In the 200m, senior Jovanni Parkinson (Wyandanch, N.Y.) won the event in 21.89 seconds, while Philip Sellitto (Levittown, N.Y.) finished in 2nd place and Chad George (Levittown, N.Y.) came in third.

In the Shot Put, Farmingdale State claimed the top four spots. Freshman Nicholas Zeolla (Middle Island, N.Y.) finished 1st, followed by Jyaire Ewa (Stamford, Conn.), James Miraval (West Islip, N.Y.) and Blake Borghard (Northport, N.Y.).

The Rams posted the top three marks in the Discus with Stephen Schmidt (Levittown, N.Y.) leading the pack in an ECAC qualifying 1st place (142' 3"). Zeolla finished 2nd and Borghard placed 3rd.

The Hammer Throw sweep was led by Ewa in 1st place, with Schmidt in 2nd and Zeolla in 3rd.

The 4x100m Relay of Anthony Miller Jr. (Yonkers, N.Y.), Nicolas Fratto (Farmingdale, N.Y.), George and Parkinson finished in 1st place at 43.87. Parkinson also won the 400m event in an ECAC qualifying time of 49.92.

Junior Idowu Bamisile (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won two events, including the 110m Hurdles with a time of 16.07 and the 400m Hurdles in a career-best 54.84, qualifying for ECAC's and moving to #4 All-Time.

Freshman James O'Brien (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) won the 3,000m Steeplechase at 10:00.38, moving to #4 All-Time, while also placing 3rd in the 5,000m.

In the Long Jump, sophomore Wendell Brand Jr. (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) took 1st with a leap of 20' 7.25" (6.28m), he also finished 2nd in the Triple Jump and 3rd in the High Jump.

Freshman David Santa (Westbury, N.Y.) took 2nd in the 800m, 2:04.65.

The 4x800m Relay of Joseph McKeon (Hyde Park, N.Y.), Wagner Cepeda Aquino (San Juan de la Maguana, DR), Dio Rodriguez (Elmont, N.Y.) and Santa finished in 2nd place in a time of 9:01.26

 

The Rams will now travel to the Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 27-29.
