Ray is a 2010 graduate of Longwood Senior High School, where he ran both indoor and outdoor track. He was the 2011 USATF Youth Indoor National Champion in the 400m (53.76), took 2nd place in the 200m (23.92) and 2nd place in the 60m (6.89). In his senior year of outdoor, he was All-State, won the NYSPHSAA Award (State Championship), competed at 2010 Penn Relays in 4x4 relay 2nd leg (3:24:34). His team were Suffolk County 2010 League1 Champions, Section 11 Spring 2010 Division 1 Champions, took Section 11 Spring All-County 4x4 (3:18:45) 1st Place in the 1600 Meter Relay and were 2010 New York State Federation Champions.
Ray ran one season at Suffolk Community College and took 6th place in the NJCAA Nationals 200m (22.94), and was on the 7th place 2012 Outdoor Nationals 4x4 Relay (3:25.16). In the NJCAA District Meet, he placed 2nd in the 400m (49.52) and was on the 2nd place 4x1 Relay.
