- Tiernan Selected to Capital One Academic All-District 3 First Team - View PDF
The 2012 Capital One Academic All‐District ® Men's Track/Cross Country Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One became the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All‐America teams programs in 2011.
Senior Sean Tiernan (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) was named to District 3 First Team, as he holds a 3.75 GPA in the Criminal Justice major. Tiernan was a standout student-athlete at Farmingdale State over his four years. In cross country, he claimed two straight Skyline Conference Individual Titles (2010 and 2011), while finishing 2nd place in 2009. He was a 2-Time Skyline Conference Runner of the Year, 4-Time All-Conference selection. This past season, he finished in 52nd at the NCAA Division III Regionals and 17th place at the ECAC Championship's.
In indoor track, he ranks #9 All-Time at Farmingdale State in the Steeplechase, #8 All-Time for the 5,000 Meter and is a member of the All-Time #5 Distance Medley Relay Team. In outdoor track, he is the school Record holder for the 3,000m Steeplechase.
The Academic All‐District ® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the first year of the expanded Academic All‐America® program as CoSIDA moves from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non Division I) and doubles the number of scholar‐athletes honored. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two‐year schools.
The Capital One Division II and III Academic All‐America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2011‐12 DII and DIII Academic All‐America® teams program.
The Academic All‐District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All‐America® Team ballot, where first, second and third‐team All‐America honorees will be selected later this month.
