2009 Outdoor Track Season Recap


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men’s and women’s outdoor track team had an outstanding season. At the ECAC’s, sophomore Qasim Ellis won the Triple Jump on his sixth and final jump. Junior Jermaine Carter competed in three events at the meet, he placed 6th in the 400M and ran two impressive relays.

Ellis won the Long Jump and Triple Jump at the Monmouth University season opener. Ellis took second place in both the Long Jump and Triple Jump at the New York Relays, leading Farmingdale to the team championship at Icahn Stadium in Manhattan. At that event, the men’s team won two events, including Sean Tiernan’s 3,000M steeplechase win and the win by the 4x100m Relay Team of Jason Chin Chitty, Naveed Mohammed, Jermaine Carter and Joe Scher. At the same meet, sophomore Gina Pierre won the Hammer Throw, breaking her own school record.

The men’s team won both the 4x100m and 4x400m relay’s, placing the team in 6th at the CTC Championship at Richard Stockton College. Chin Chitty, Mohammed, Carter and Scher ran the winning 4x100M Relay team and Carter, Steven Brown, Greg Denis and John Bates took first in the 4x400m Relay. At the same meet, Brown took 3rd at the 110m high hurdles and 5th in the high jump, while John Roselle finished 3rd in the Hammer Throw with his distance placing him #3 on the FSC All-Time List.

The women’s team finished in 13th place at the CTC’s. Sarah Pope finished in 6th place in the 3,000m steeplechase and Deborah Harris’s throw of 41’ 4 ½” placed her number 6 on Farmingdale’s All-Time List.
