2010 Outdoor Track Recap

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The men’s and women’s outdoor track teams each scored 10 points to place 23rd and 27th respectively at the ECAC Championships. Freshman MVP Corine Magee (Mastic Beach, N.Y./William Floyd) placed 3rd in the 200m (25.62) and 6th in the 100m (12.52). The men's team had four scorers in the Championships. Junior Qasim Ellis (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) took 4th in the triple jump and junior Jeff St. Simon (Farmingdale, N.Y./South Farmingdale) finished in 8th place at the same event. Junior Greg Denis (Tallahassee, Fla./Elmont Memorial), the outdoor track Most Valuable Player, ran a personal best 54.81 in the 400m IH to place 6th and freshman Donnell Jones (Brooklyn, N.Y./Valley Stream Central) took 8th in the long jump.

The Rams began the outdoor season by hosting the first-ever track meet at our new athletic complex. The team won nine events and three relays. Highlighting the men was junior Deshaun Thomas (Jamaica, N.Y./Thomas Edison) who won the 100m and 200m dash and ran the third leg of the first place 4x100m relay team. Freshman Ed Brown (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) took first place in the hammer throw with a school record throw of 163’ 6”. Sophomore Gina Pierre (Wyandanch, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) set a new school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 135’ 4”. Other winners were Ellis in the triple jump, Jones in the long jump, Steve Brown (Wheatley Heights, N.Y./Hills East) in the high jump and Nick David (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) in the pole vault. Magee won the 100m and 200m dash and ran the final leg of the first place 4x100m relay.
 
The team set two school records and had six ECAC qualifiers at the Penn Invitational. Magee broke the 200m record with a time of 25.41. David set the pole vault Farmingdale State record with a vault of 14’ 11”.
 
At the Rowan University Open, the women’s team broke three school records. Magee broke the 100m dash record and qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track Championships, while Mandat and Pierre broke their own records for the 100m hurdles and hammer throw respectively. Chukwuezi won the long jump event as well as the triple jump. Winners on the men’s side we Jeff St. Simon in the triple jump, David in the pole Vault, Brown in the hammer throw and the distance medley relay team of Sean Daly, James Owen, Russell Darress and Sean Tiernan.
 
The men’s and women’s teams placed third and fifth respectively and the CTC Championship. Junior James Owen (Riverhead, N.Y./Riverhead) won the decathlon as he captured six of the 10 events. David won the pole vault with a jump of 14 feet, while Denis and St. Simon finished second in the 400m intermediate hurdles and triple jump respectively. Magee won the 100m and 200m dashes and teamed with Janel Monah, Clermont and Chukwuezi to win the 4x100m relay.
 
This past weekend at the Vassar College Invitational the men’s won all six events (5 field and 1 running). Pierre broke her hammer throw record for the third time this season with a toss of 143' 8" as she qualified for the ECAC Championships.
