
Outdoor Track Season Recap
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The men's and women's Outdoor
Track teams had 12 ECAC qualifiers this season. In addition, Senior
Chris Okolie qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships in
the Discus Throw and finished in 10th place after being predicted
to finish 16th. He also finished 4th place at the ECAC’s in
the same event.
The highlight for both teams was their performances at the CTC
Championships held at Desales University in Allentown, PA. At that
meet, the men’s team finished in 2nd place out of 31 Division
I, II and III schools and were defeated by only Division I Sacred
Heart University. At the CTC's, David Casillas took 1st place in
the Hammer Throw, while Qasim Ellis captured the Triple-Jump
Championship. Naveed Mohammed (100m), Chris Hebst (110m Hurdles),
Akil Williams (High Jump), Okolie (Discus) and Kurt Johns-Harris
(Triple Jump) all took 2nd place in their respective events. For
the women, junior Gina Pierre broke the school record in the Hammer
Throw with a toss of 122'8" for first place at the CTC’s,
while teammate Shannon Degnan took 5th in the 100m hurdles.
Casillas set the school record in the Hammer Throw at the Richard
Stockton Osprey Open with a throw of 157'4" to win him the event.
The Richard Stockton Open, where Okolie qualified for the NCAA
Championship, also saw Reggie Routier and Hairston finish in the
top five in the Triple Jump. Chris Herbst placed 3rd in both the
400m Intermediate Hurdles and 110m High Hurdles at the Kings Point
Coach "O" Invitational. Herbst now stands in 4th place All-Time in
the 110m High Hurdles.
