Akil graduated from August Martin in 2003. He is a senior at Farmingdale and competes in the High Jump.

Akil finished in 1st place at the 2006 Outdoor Track ECAC's in the High Jump and placed 2nd at the 2005 Indoor Track ECAC's. He stands in 2nd place (6' 6 1/4") on Farmingdale's All-Time Performance list for the High Jump in Indoor Track and in 3rd place (6' 6 3/4") on the Outdoor Track list. He was named MVP of the Indoor Track team for the 2005-06 season.
