Rams Win 6 Events, 7 ECAC Qualifiers at Christopher Newport

Newport News, Va. - The men's and women's outdoor track team traveled to Newport News, Virginia to compete in the Captain's Classic Invitational hosted by Division III powerhouse Christopher Newport University. The team excelled at the meet winning six events and posting seven ECAC qualifying performances. They also had six second place finishes and six third place finishes.

In the running events, Andrew Sanchez won the Men's 800-meter in a time of 2:01.55, while Chris Herbst also placed atop his event, the 400-meter Intermediate Hurdles. The men's 4x400-meter Relay of Kensely Norian, Jason Chin Chitty, Azell Green and Akil Williams finished first in 3:23.96, also qualifying for the ECAC's.

The field events called for three first place finishes by the Rams. Akil Williams had a first place, ECAC Qualifying High Jump of 6'6" (1.96 meters). Reuben Hairston won the Long Jump with a leap of 20' 6 1/2". David Casillas set a personal best with a 131' 7" Hammer Throw to move into 3rd place All-Time in the Farmingdale record books for his event.

The women's 4x100-meter Relay of Nicole Zarek, Kerri Ann-Samuels, Brianna DeVito and Ivory Elder placed 2nd in the meet with a time of 55.71 which moves them to 7th All-Time in the Farmingdale record books. DeVito also placed 3rd in the High Jump and moved to 4th All-Time at Farmingdale with a 4' 9 3/4" jump.

Farmingdale will compete next on April 14th at the Coach "O" Invitational at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.
