- Men with 9 in Top-3, Women with 7 in Top-3 -
Huntington, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's and women's indoor track team opened 2016 with 16 top-3 finishes at the St. Joseph's-LI Winter Invitational on Saturday, January 16th. The men's team posted nine in the top three and the women had seven top three finishes.
On the men's side, senior Jovanni Parkinson (Wyandanch, N.Y.) placed 2nd in the 200m (22.97), 2nd in the 400m (53.83), ran on the 3rd place 4x200m Relay (1:32.90, ECAC qualifying) and 4th place in the Long Jump (6.17m, 20' 3"). Sophomore Jyaire Ewa (North Massapequa, N.Y.) posted 2nd in both his events, including the Shot Put (12.84m, 42' 1 1/2") and the Weight Throw (16.32m, 53' 6 1/2", ECAC qualifying). Freshman Najee Jean (Laurelton, N.Y.) was right behind Ewa in his two events with 3rd place finishes in the Shot Put (12.72m, 41' 8 3/4") and Weight Throw (14.96m, 49' 1").
The women were led by a 1st place finish from freshman Tunisia Solomon (Amityville, N.Y.) in the Triple Jump (10.62m, 34' 10 1/4"). This was a career best mark and improved her #7 All-Time ranking in the FSC record books. Junior Maia Cadle-Hinton (Huntington, N.Y.) won the Weight Throw with a toss of 14.50m (47' 7"), an ECAC qualifying mark.
The team will next compete on Friday, January 22nd at the NYC Gotham Cup held at the Ocean Breeze Park Track & Field Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.
