Indoor Track Opens Season at Bill Ward Invitational

- Nilsen wins pole vault, Rams place in nine events -


Melville, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's and women's indoor track teams opened the 2014-15 season at the St. John's "Bill Ward" Invitational at St. Anthony's High School on Monday.

Sophomore Karl Nilsen (Smithtown, N.Y.) won the pole vault for the second straight year with a vault of 3.95M (12' 11 3/4"). Sophomore Stephen Schmidt (Levittown, N.Y.) placed in two events as he took third in the shot put with a throw of 12.60M (41' 4 1/4") and fifth in the 35lb. weight throw (12.85M / 42' 2"). Schmidt's mark in the weight throw is a new personal best by five feet and moves him to #8 on the FSC All-Time List.

Sophomore Maia Cadle-Hinton (Huntington, N.Y.) earned a sixth place finish in the 20lb. weight throw for the women with a toss of 13.30M (47' 7 3/4").

Farmingdale State next will compete at the Manhattan College Invitational on Friday, December 12th and Saturday, December 13th.
