Indoor Track Season Recap


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The indoor track team capped a successful season with strong showings at their first-ever New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship.

Junior Edward Brown IV (Bay Shore, N.Y.) set a NJAC record with a weight throw of 18.09m shattering the old mark of 16.92m set in 2003. Junior Mike Jang (Lynbrook, N.Y.) finished in second and freshman Ieshawn Johnson (Queens, N.Y.) placed third as Farmingdale State swept the weight throw event. Other highlights from the men included a second place finish in the distance medley relay team of Russell Darress, Daquan Grant, William Frederic and Sean Tiernan. Sophomore Alix Lamarre (North Bellmore, N.Y.) took fourth place in both the long jump and triple jump and junior Jelani Bledman finished fourth in the 60m hurdles.

The women were led by junior Kathleen Clermont (Uniondale, N.Y.) who placed second in the 200m and fifth in the 60m dash. Victoria Mandat placed second in the 60m hurdles, while junior Joanna Pavone (West Islip, N.Y.) tied her school-record mark in the pole vault, which earned her a sixth place finish.

Brown's winning throw at the NJAC Championship broke his own school-record which he bested four times this year including at the Metro Coaches Invitational, Long Island Championships and the Molloy Invitational.

Other highlights for the men included a third place finish at the CTC Championship. Donnell Jones finished second in the 60m and third in the long jump, while Lamarre captured the long jump championship.

Highlighting the women, were first place finishes by Pavone and Clermont at the Molloy Invitational as well as a first place finish by the 4x200m relay team. Pavone also took first place at the NYU DIII Challenge, breaking her own school record set at the Molloy Invitational.

The men's and women's team combined for 16 ECAC Championship qualifiers.
