
2008-09 Indoor Track Season Recap
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men’s and women’s indoor track team qualified 11 individuals and two Relays this season for the ECAC Championships.
At the ECAC’s, the men’s team finished 30th out of 72 teams, as freshman Joe Scher placed 4th in the 55M dash, Qasim Ellis placed 6th in the Triple Jump, Jermaine Carter finished 7th in the 400M and John Bates placed 8th in the 500M.
At this year’s CTC Championships, junior captain Naveed Mohammed scored in four events to lead the men's team to a 4th place finish out of 17 scoring teams. Mohammed placed 4th in the 55m, 4th in the 200m, 6th in the Long Jump and ran the anchor leg of the 5th place 4x200m Relay. Sophomore Qasim Ellis won the Triple Jump and was a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Championship. Junior Nicole Zarek placed fifth in the Pentathlon, leading the women's team to a tie for 16th place.
At the CTC Relays, the first meet of the season, the men's team
placed 2nd at the meet, winning three Relays, while the women's
team placed in 7th. Junior Gina Pierre broke her own school record
in the 20-lb Weight Throw with a toss of 41’ 4
½”, placing third in her event.
The team will lose 6 seniors to graduation of their 42 person
roster.
