Farmingdale, N.Y. - Third-seeded Farmingdale State hosted #6 Yeshiva University this afternoon for the First Round of the Skyline Conference Men's Soccer Championship and fell in penalty kicks. Yeshiva has advanced to the Semifinals and will travel to #2 Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday afternoon.

The Maccabees (5-7-1) had the first scoring chance of the game at 16:19, when freshman forward Lucas Baredes (Buenos Aires, Argentina) went on a breakaway but shot it over the top of the net.

Only 43 seconds later, FSC (10-5-2) senior forward Carlos Rivera (Huntington, N.Y.) drove up the field and took a shot that caromed off the left post as the game remained scoreless.

The Rams threatened again with 8:20 left in the half after a passing play set up a shot for freshman forward Roberto Alfaro (Huntington Station, N.Y.). Alfaro received a cross in front but was stopped on a diving save by Yeshiva senior goalkeeper Sagi Badash (Rosh Ha'Ayin, Israel).

Farmingdale State got on the board with 4:05 on the clock as Rivera took a corner kick and senior defender Anthony Machado (Carle Place, N.Y.) headed the ball in to give FSC a 1-0 advantage.

The Maccabees took one more shot before the end of the half, that was stopped by Rams' sophomore goalie Peter Khazar (Deer Park, N.Y.), as Farmingdale State took a 1-0 lead into the break.

In the opening minute of the second half, Rivera nearly doubled the Rams lead when he drove along the goal line and sent a shot just high of the net.

With 24:35 left to play, Rivera dribbled past three defenders and scored from 10 yards out to put FSC on top, 2-0.

Over the next 15 minutes, the Rams maintained the pressure, attempting seven shots as the score remained, 2-0.

With 4:47 left to play, Yeshiva sophomore defender Asher Martin (London, England) scored off the feed from junior midfielder Jess Rom (Johannesburg, South Africa) to cut their deficit to 2-1.

Only 48 seconds later, sophomore midfielder Naor Dahan (Johannesburg, South Africa) recorded a goal to knot the score at 2-2 and force overtime.

In the first OT, the Rams controlled play, attempting three shots to just one for the Maccabees. Farmingdale State senior midfielder Alex Castano (Valley Stream, N.Y.) had the lone shot on goal that was saved on a dive by Badash.

Khazar made two saves in the second overtime to keep Yeshiva off the board as the game headed to a penalty kick shootout.

Both teams changed goalkeepers for the shootout as freshman goalie Jabari Dennis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) entered for the Rams and junior goalie Nicolas Dlugach (Buenos Aires, Argentina) came in for the Maccabees.

Machado opened with a goal for FSC before Rom was stopped by Dennis. After a miss for the Rams to open the second round, Yeshiva scored to tie the shootout at 1-1.

In the third round, Farmingdale State's Daniel Rivas (Westbury, N.Y.) scored before another stop for Dennis put the Rams ahead, 2-1.

Both teams made their shots in the fourth round as FSC entered the fifth leading, 3-2.

After Rivera was stopped for the Rams, the Maccabees' Marc Ziarno (Woodmere, N.Y.) connected on his shot to tie the shootout at 3-3.

Farmingdale State missed to open up the sixth round before a Yonatan Reiter (SDE Itzhak, Israel) make clinched the 4-3 shootout victory for Yeshiva.

Rivera finished with three points on a goal and an assist for the Rams.

Khazar (T, 1-1-1) and Badash (T, 5-4-1) each finished with six saves on the day.

FSC has been eliminated from the playoffs and finishes their season with a 10-5-2 record.
