FSC Clinches #3 Seed with Win Versus Maritime on Senior Night

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's soccer team defeated Maritime College, 2-0, this evening and have clinched the #3 seed for the upcoming Skyline Conference playoffs. The Rams finished the regular season 10-5-1 overall and 8-2-1 in the conference.

It was Senior Night at FSC as seniors Andrew Tedesco (Dix Hills, N.Y.), Joe Innamorato (West Babylon, N.Y.), Alex Castano (Valley Stream, N.Y.), Anthony Machado (Carle Place, N.Y.) and Carlos Rivera (Huntington, N.Y.) were each honored prior to the game.

FSC scored just 9:35 in after junior defender Derick Rivera (Levittown, N.Y) scored off the give-and-go with C. Rivera to go in front, 1-0.

At 17:51, Castano sent in a corner kick for Innamorato but his shot caromed off the right goal post as the game remained, 1-0.

The Rams extended their lead to 2-0 with just 1:04 left in the first half. Machado kicked the ball ahead to C. Rivera, who then passed the ball in front to freshman forward Roberto Alfaro (Huntington Station, N.Y.) for the goal from 15 yards out.

FSC held a 12-2 shot advantage and attempted the only three corner kicks in the first 45 minutes.

At 55:56 in the second half, Maritime (7-8, 4-7 Skyline) had their best chance after a foul by Farmingdale State set up a free kick. On the kick, Privateers' senior midfielder Sean O'Neill (Highland Mills, N.Y.) had his shot punched out and saved by FSC sophomore goalkeeper Justin Silva (Bellrose, N.Y.). 

With 12 minutes remaining, Maritime put pressure on the Rams, attempting a pair of shots and a corner kick, but were unable to score as Farmingdale State went on for the 2-0 victory.

D. Rivera (1g), Alfaro (1g) and C. Rivera (2a) finished with two points apiece.

Silva (W, 9-4-1) earned his ninth win and seventh shutout the the season, while Maritime senior goalie Tim Nichols (West Seneca, N.Y.) (L, 6-8) took the loss.

The Rams have clinched the #3 seed for the Skyline Conference Men's Soccer Championship and will host #6 Yeshiva in a First Round game on Sunday, October 31st.
