Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's soccer team earned a 2-0 shutout of Skyline opponent St. Joseph's-Brooklyn this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams (6-3, 4-0 Skyline) have not allowed a goal in their last four games.

In a scoreless first half, FSC sophomore goalkeeper Justin Silva (Bellrose, N.Y.) made two saves, while Bears' (2-4-1, 0-2-1 Skyline) senior goalie Alejandro Oliveros (Brooklyn, N.Y.) stopped all four Farmingdale State shots on goal.

The Rams controlled play early in the second half, attempting five unanswered shots in the first 15 minutes. At 51:56, FSC senior forward Carlos Rivera (Huntington, N.Y.) sent a corner kick for senior defender Anthony Machado (Carle Place, N.Y.), but his header went just wide of the net.

With 18:58 left to play, junior defender Derick Rivera (Levittown, N.Y.) put a cross in front, over the goalkeepers head, for freshman forward Erick Maldonado (Brentwood, N.Y.). His header went just over the cross bar as the game remained, 0-0.

After a yellow card allowed a Farmingdale State free kick in the 73rd minute, C. Rivera attempted a shot that was blocked by a Bears defender.

With 5:03 left to play, C. Rivera broke the scoreless tie with his fifth goal of the season as both junior defender Michael Lanouette (Hamden, Conn.) and freshman midfielder Heris Robles (Central Islip, N.Y.) registered assists.

Just 1:45 later, C. Rivera notched his second goal of the game, off the feed from freshman defender Daniel Rivas (Westbury, N.Y.), as the Rams went on for the 2-0 shutout victory.

Silva finished with two saves and improved to 5-2 on the season with the win.

Farmingdale State next will host Mount Saint Mary for a Skyline Conference game on Wednesday, October 6th at 6:00 p.m.
