Rams Drop Season Opener in OT at Eastern

Eastern - 2, Farmingdale State - 1  (F/OT)


St. Davids, Penn. - The Farmingdale State men's soccer team traveled to Eastern University on Monday for their first game of the 2021 season and fell 2-1 in overtime. The Eagles improved to 2-0 on the year, while the Rams sit at 0-1.

Eastern midfielder Gabriel Velazquez (Houston, Texas) opened the scoring 24 minutes into the game as he connected on the pass from junior midfielder Derek Buhrman (Waynesboro, Penn.) to put the Eagles out in front 1-0.

With only 3:31 remaining in the first half, FSC senior midfielder Carlos Rivera (Huntington, N.Y.) scored off the Michael Lanouette (Hamden, Conn.) pass to even the score at 1-1.

In a scoreless second half, Eastern held a 7-4 shot advantage but neither team could find the net for the win in regulation.

In OT, Eastern's Emmanuel Hewitt (Chambersburg, Penn.) connected on a free-kick to the top corner of the net with only eight seconds left on the clock to seal the 2-1 victory for the Eagles.

FSC sophomore goalkeeper Justin Silva (Bellrose, N.Y.) recorded eight saves, while freshman Tyler Shearin (Wake Forest, N.C.) stopped two shots in the victory.

Farmingdale State next will travel to Baruch for a non-conference game on Wednesday, September 8th at 5:00 p.m.
