Rams Fall in Double OT at Top-Seeded Mount Saint Mary

Newburgh, N.Y. - The fourth-seeded Farmingdale State men's soccer team traveled to top-seeded Mount Saint Mary for the Skyline Conference Semifinals this evening and were defeated, 2-1, in double overtime. The Knights scored the game-winning goal with 55 seconds left on the clock and will now host #6 Maritime in the Skyline Finals on Saturday.

MSMC (14-5-1) quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead less than three minutes in on a Jonathan Schefer (Greenlawn, N.Y.) header to the top left corner of the net off the free kick from 35 yards out by sophomore midfielder Matt Wyant (Beacon, N.Y.). After the opening goal by Mount Saint Mary, the game was evenly matched as each team attempted four shots and one corner kick in the first half. The Knights took the 1-0 advantage into the break.

Farmingdale State (10-11) junior midfielder Bryan Argueta (Westbury, N.Y.) sent home an unassisted goal to the bottom left corner of the net to tie the game at 1-1 in the 67th minute. The Rams held the Knights scoreless and to only one shot over the final 22 minutes of regulation as the game headed into overtime.

In the first overtime, MSMC outshot Farmingdale State 3-1 but neither team was unable to find the net.

With 55 seconds remaining in double OT, the Knights earned a spot in the Skyline Finals after senior forward Joey Dolan (New Paltz, N.Y.) scored the game-winner off the pass by Schefer. 

In goal, FSC freshman Justin Silva (Bellrose, N.Y.) had four saves, while junior Tyler Rapp (East Berne, N.Y.) stopped six shots in the victory for the Knights.
