FSC Athletics Fall Update #9

- Pozo named Libero of the Week and LaFata tabbed Rookie of the Week -


New York, N.Y. - The Skyline Conference released the Fall weekly report #9 on Tuesday, October 29th, including Player of the Week, Rookie of the Week, Honor Roll and Conference statistics for men's and women's soccer and women's volleyball.

Women's Volleyball Update (13-13, 5-4 Skyline) - Skyline Full Report

In two conference matches last week, Farmingdale State defeated St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, 3-0, but fell to St. Joseph's-Long Island, 3-2.

Sophomore libero Madisyn Pozo (Bayside, N.Y.) was named the Libero of the Week for the second time this season after totaling 45 digs and eight service aces. In the win over SJC-BK, Pozo tallied 25 digs, the second-most digs in a three-set match all-time, to go along with four aces. She followed with 20 digs and four aces against SJC-LI.

This week, the Rams will close out their regular season schedule with a pair of Skyline matchups: Tuesday at Old Westbury (@ Farmingdale State) @ 6:00 p.m. & Thursday vs. Sarah Lawrence @ 7:00 p.m. (Senior Night)

 

Women's Soccer Update (11-5-3, 8-0-1 Skyline) - Skyline Full Report

In a trio of Skyline Conference games last week, the Rams defeated Mount Saint Vincent (3-1) and Purchase (8-0), and played to a double overtime tie with Mount Saint Mary (1-1).

Freshman midfielder Briella LaFata (East Meadow, N.Y.) was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week. LaFata tallied three assists as she picked up a pair of helpers on the final two goals of FSC's 3-1 triumph over Mount Saint Vincent. She added one assist in the Rams 8-0 win against Purchase.

Sophomore forward Julissa Martinez (Brentwood, N.Y.) earned a spot on the Player of the Week honor roll as she picked up a hat trick against the Panthers on Saturday. Martinez recorded her three goals in a span of 2 minutes and 19 seconds, a time that ranks seventh all-time in NCAA Division III women's soccer history.

This week, the Rams will finish their regular season with a conference game at Manhattanville on Wednesday @ 4:00 p.m.

 

Men's Soccer Update (9-9, 6-4 Skyline) - Skyline Full Report

Last week, the men's soccer team lost to Mount Saint Vincent, 3-2, and defeated Purchase in double overtime, 2-1. 

Sophomore forward Chris Schmidt (Massapequa, N.Y.) was tabbed to the Player of the Week honor roll as he scored both goals in the win over Purchase. Schmidt notched the game-tying goal with 2:15 left on the clock and followed by scoring the game-winner with 52 seconds left in double OT.

This week, FSC will host Skyline opponent Manhattanville on Tuesday @ 4:00 p.m. in their final regular season game. 

 

Women's Tennis Update (16-1, 7-0 Skyline)

Top-seeded Farmingdale State won the Skyline Conference Championship, 5-1, over #2 St. Joseph's-Long Island last week to earn an automatic bid into the 2020 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships this May. FSC sophomore Nicole Ferguson (Shirley, N.Y.) was named the Most Outstanding Player of the championship. The Rams closed the fall season on a school record 15-match winning streak.

 

Cross Country Update

The FSC cross country teams will compete at the Skyline Conference Championships held at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome in Milton, N.Y. on Thursday, October 31st.
