FSC Falls to Old Westbury in Double OT on Senior Day

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's soccer team fell, 2-1, to conference opponent Old Westbury in double overtime this afternoon. It was Senior Day at FSC and Michael Gino (Wantagh, N.Y.), Daniel Mehryari (Levittown, N.Y.), Brayan Cruz (Levittown, N.Y.) and Alec Chapoteau (Wantagh, N.Y.) were each honored prior to the start of the game.

Only 2:27 into the game, Mehryari was fouled in the box and awarded a penalty kick. He converted to the right side of the net to give Farmingdale State (8-8, 5-3) an early 1-0 lead.

In a defensive first half where the Rams held a slight 4-3 shot advantage, neither team would score after Mehryari's goal at the 2:27 mark as the game went into the break with FSC on top, 1-0.

With 25:31 remaining in regulation, Old Westbury (5-9-1, 3-5) freshman midfielder Michael DaSilva (West Hempstead, N.Y.) tied the game at 1-1 after scoring the only goal in the second half off the pass by freshman midfielder Michael Gilligan (Glen Head, N.Y.).

After a scoreless first overtime period, Gilligan sent home the game-winner for the Panthers with 6:52 left on the clock in double OT.

Freshman goalkeeper Justin Silva (Bellrose, N.Y.) recorded seven saves for the Rams, while sophomore James Perciballi (Elmont, N.Y.) stopped six shots for Old Westbury.

Farmingdale State next will travel to Mount Saint Vincent for a Skyline Conference game on Wednesday, October 23rd at 3:30 p.m.
