Mehryari's Penalty Kick Goal Leads FSC Past Merchant Marine

Kings Point, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's soccer team traveled to Merchant Marine for a Skyline Conference game on Wednesday night and earned a 1-0 victory. The Rams improved to 7-6 overall and 4-1 in Skyline play as they dealt the Mariners their first conference loss of the season.

With 6:54 remaining in the first half, FSC senior midfielder Daniel Mehryari (Levittown, N.Y.) was fouled by Merchant Marine (8-4, 5-1) as soon as he entered the top of the box. Mehryari converted the penalty kick by scoring in the lower right corner of the net. The Rams took the 1-0 lead into halftime despite being outshot 11-3.

Over the first 19:02 of the second half, the Mariners attempted four shots, two of which were on goal and both saved by Farmingdale State freshman goalkeeper Justin Silva (Bellrose, N.Y.). The Rams held Merchant Marine to only three shots the remainder of the game and went on for the 1-0 victory.

In goal, Silva stopped three shots and recorded his second consecutive shutout for Farmingdale State.

The Rams next will host St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, October 12th at noon.
