Silva Tallies Seven Saves in Rams Shutout of SJC-LI

Patchogue, N.Y. - In a Skyline Conference men's soccer game this afternoon, Farmingdale State freshman goalkeeper Justin Silva (Bellrose, N.Y.) made a season-high seven saves to lead the Rams to a 3-0 victory. FSC improved to 3-1 in conference play, while the Golden Eagles fell to 2-4.

In the ninth minute of the contest, Silva made back-to-back saves on St. Joseph's-LI (2-8) senior forward Rayneri Ruiz (Bay Shore, N.Y.) to keep the game scoreless.

Five minutes later, Farmingdale State (6-6) senior midfielder Daniel Mehryari (Levittown, N.Y.) took a shot that was saved by Golden Eagles junior goalkeeper Tyler Flaherty (Manorville, N.Y.). Just one second later, Mehryari was able to gather the rebound and shoot it past Flaherty to put the Rams ahead, 1-0.

The game remained 1-0 until the 42nd minute when junior midfielder Alex Castano (Valley Stream, N.Y.) sent a cross into the box from the right side and senior midfielder Alec Chapoteau (Wantagh, N.Y.) scored on a header to give Farmingdale State a two-goal lead.

The Rams held a 13-5 shot advantage as they led 2-0 at the halftime break.

In the second half, neither team recorded a shot on goal until 66:46 when SJC-LI senior forward Damian Duda (Riverhead, N.Y.) attempted a shot that was saved by Silva.

With just under 20 minutes left, FSC senior midfielder Brayan Cruz (Levittown, N.Y.) tallied an unassisted goal to go in front, 3-0.

Silva stopped a pair of shots down the stretch to secure Farmingdale State's 3-0 conference victory.

The Rams next travel to Merchant Marine for a Skyline game on Wednesday, October 9th at 7:45 p.m.
