Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's soccer team played host to New Jersey City University this evening and were defeated, 2-1. The Rams held an early 1-0 advantage but a pair of unanswered goals by NJCU led the Gothic Knights to the 2-1 win.

Senior midfielder Daniel Mehryari (Levittown, N.Y.) put Farmingdale State (3-4) out in front 1-0 after scoring in the 8th minute as Chris Schmidt (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Alex Castano (Valley Stream, N.Y.) tallied the assists.

With 3:13 left to play in the first half, NJCU (9-0) freshman defender Joao Fernandes's (Kearny, N.J.) goal tied the game at 1-1. The game went into the break tied despite the Gothic Knights holding a 10-6 shot advantage.

In the 63rd minute, NJCU took a 2-1 lead after sophomore midfielder Samuel Ansah (East Orange, N.J.) netted the pass from freshman midfielder Kevin Alvarez (Bayonne, N.J.).

With 10:40 remaining on the clock, a Gothic Knights foul on junior forward Carlos Rivera (Huntington, N.Y.) resulted in a penalty kick attempt. The Rams were unable to convert on the penalty kick after a save by junior goalkeeper Aldahir Cazun (Jersey City, N.J.) kept NJCU on top, 2-1.

The Gothic Knights held on for the one-goal victory and improved to a perfect 9-0 on the season.

Cazun stopped a game-high seven shots, while freshman goalkeeper Justin Silva (Bellrose, N.Y.) had three saves for Farmingdale State.

FSC next will host New Paltz in a non-conference game on Saturday, September 21st at 1:00 p.m.
