Schmidt Scores Pair as Rams Defeat Brooklyn

Farmingdale State - 4, Brooklyn - 1


Brooklyn, N.Y. - Sophomore forward Chris Schmidt (Massapequa, N.Y.) scored the first two goals of the game en route to Farmingdale State's 4-1 non-conference victory at Brooklyn College on Monday. The FSC men's soccer team now stands at 2-2 on the year, while the Bulldogs dropped to 0-3.

In the 39th minute, Schmidt broke the scoreless tie after scoring off the feed by junior midfielder Alex Castano (Valley Stream, N.Y.). The Rams held Brooklyn without a goal over the final 6:43 of the first half and took the 1-0 advantage into the break. In the first, Farmingdale State outshot the Bulldogs, 10-5.

With 31:39 left to play, BC senior midfielder Bokkar Ka (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored off a cross in front by sophomore defender Demyan Turry (Lviv, Ukraine) to tie the game at 1-1. Only 2:29 later, Schmidt's second goal of the afternoon put the Rams back in front, 2-1.

Over the final 17 minutes of action, FSC used goals from junior midfielder's Robert Anastasio (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and Bryan Argueta (Westbury, N.Y.) the cap off the 4-1 win. Castano finished the day with a career-high two assists.

Freshman goalkeeper Justin Silva (Bellrose, N.Y.) had three saves in the win for the Rams.

Farmingdale State next will host Baruch in their first home game of the season on Wednesday, September 11th at 5:00 p.m.
