Men's Golf and Women's Soccer Finish Atop Preseason Coaches Polls

Skyline Conference Preseason Coaches Poll with images of Farmingdale State fall student-athletes.

New York, N.Y. - The head coaches in the Skyline Conference have made their predictions for the upcoming 2019 fall sports seasons.

The Rams finished atop the preseason coaches polls in both men's golf and women's soccer. Farmingdale State is tabbed third in women's tennis and fourth in men's and women's cross country. In both women's volleyball and men's soccer, FSC was chosen to finish in sixth place.

Head coach George Cangero's Rams, winners of the last three Skyline titles, garnered four first-place votes on their way to 44 voting points. Conference returnee and fellow 2019 NCAA participant Manhattanville College (three first-place votes) collected 40 points, while Mount Saint Mary College (35), St. Joseph's College-Long Island (34 - one first-place vote) and Purchase College, SUNY (23) round out the top-five.

The 2019 Skyline Conference Golf Championship will take place Sept. 22-23 at Bethpage State Park's Red Course, with the winner of the 36-hole championship earning the conference's automatic bid to the 2020 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship next May.

Head coach Chris Roche's Rams garnered all 10 possible first-place votes (teams are not allowed to vote for themselves), en route to a perfect score of 100 points. Last year's runner-up, Mount Saint Mary College, picked up one first-place vote and earned 89 points for the No. 2 position in the tally. Conference returnee Manhattanville College (73), College of Mount Saint Vincent (62) and both Sarah Lawrence College and St. Joseph's College-Long Island (61 each) rounded out the top-five positions on the ledger.

The six-team 2019 Skyline Conference Women's Soccer Championship will take place at home sites, with first-round action kicking off on Saturday, Nov. 2. Semifinals play will commence on Nov. 6, with the championship final set to get underway on Nov. 9 -- with the winner earning the conference's automatic bid to the following week's NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship.

The Panthers, led by first-year head coach Joseph Binder, garnered four first-place votes en route to a total of 45 voting points. St. Joseph's College-Long Island won last season's title match over PC, and picked up three first-place tallies and 44 points to slot in second on the ledger. Farmingdale State College (37 - one first-place vote), Mount Saint Mary College (29) and conference returnee Manhattanville College (27) round out the top-five positions.

The four-team 2019 Skyline Conference Women's Tennis Championship gets underway with semifinals action on Thursday, Oct. 24, with the championship final taking place Oct. 26. The conference champion will receive the Skyline's automatic bid to the 2020 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship in May.

Interim head coach CAPT Charles Billi's Mariners won last season's Skyline Conference Championship race, and collected 117 voting points for the No. 1 ranking. SUNY Maritime College (108) checks in at the second position after picking up three first-place tallies, with St. Joseph's College-Long Island (87), Farmingdale State College (83) and conference returnee Manhattanville College (78 - one first-place vote) rounding out the top five.

The 2019 Skyline Conference Cross Country Championships will be held Thursday afternoon, Oct. 31, at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome in Milton, N.Y.

St. Joseph's College-Long Island (102 pts.) garnered two first-place votes, while preseason conference No. 3 Mount Saint Mary College (93) picked up one. Farmingdale State College (79) and Sarah Lawrence College (68) round out the top-five, while SUNY Maritime College (one first-place vote) and College of Mount Saint Vincent tied for sixth with 64 points apiece.

The 2019 Skyline Conference Cross Country Championships are slated for Thursday afternoon, Oct. 31, at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome in Milton, N.Y.

Head coach Tim Gaiser's Mariners picked up six first-place votes en route to 114 voting points to earn the lead spot. Defending champion College of Mount Saint Vincent picked up four first-place tallies and 100 points -- just one point ahead of Skyline returnee Manhattanville College (two first-place votes). Rounding out the top-five are St. Joseph's College-Long Island (94) and Mount Saint Mary College (89).

The six-team 2019 Skyline Conference Women's Volleyball Championship will take place at home sites, beginning with first-round play on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Semifinal action gets underway on Thursday, Nov. 7, with the championship final to be contested on Saturday, Nov. 9. The United States Merchant Marine Academy (101) picked up one first-place tally, while SUNY Maritime College (96) and SUNY Old Westbury (74) round out the top-five.
