Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's soccer team hosted Yeshiva University this afternoon for a Skyline Conference game and fell in double overtime, 2-1.
In the eighth minute of action, FSC (6-6, 2-3 Skyline) went ahead 1-0 after senior midfielder William Grajales (Cali, Colombia) was fouled in the box and junior midfielder Daniel Mehryari (Levittown, N.Y.) buried the penalty shot.
Just over five minutes later, the Maccabees (6-4, 4-2 Skyline) tied the score on an unassisted goal from sophomore forward Alberto Benhamu (Caracas, Venezuela).
Neither team would score over the final 32:01 of the half as the game headed into the break knotted at 1-1.
In a scoreless second half, Farmingdale State outshot Yeshiva, 9-6, and held a 6-0 corner kick advantage.
The Maccabees controlled the first overtime and tallied three shots, while the Rams had one.
Just over a minute into the second overtime, Yeshiva threatened with back-to-back shots by freshman defender Aaron Cohen (Johannesburg, South Africa), but FSC senior goalkeeper Scott Flores (Commack, N.Y.) stopped the first before the second shot was blocked.
Flores tallied back-to-back saves with just over two minutes remaining as he made a diving save on junior midfielder Ilan Slonim (West Orange, N.J.) before stopping a shot by Benhamu just 12 seconds later.
With 1:04 on the clock, Maccabees senior defender Matan Meloul (Gaithersburg, Md.) sent a leading pass for freshman forward Jonah Beberman (Highland Park, N.J.) who scored from 10 yards out to give Yeshiva the 2-1 double overtime victory.
Flores finished with a season-high 10 saves, while Maccabees freshman goalkeeper Edgar Schottland (Lima, Peru) stopped six shots in the win.
Farmingdale State next travels to Mount Saint Mary for a conference game on Saturday, October 13th at noon.
