
FDU-Florham - 2, Farmingdale State - 1
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's soccer team hosted FDU-Florham for a non-conference game this afternoon and lost, 2-1. The Rams fell to 1-2 on the year, while the Devils improved to 1-3.
FSC opened the scoring only 7:21 into the contest as sophomore forward Thomas Hamel (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored off the double assist from sophomore midfielder Alex Castano (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and senior midfielder William Grajales (Cali, Columbia).
FDU-Florham sophomore forward Justin Estremera (Kenilworth, N.J.) tied the score in the 24th minute on a shot from 20 yards out as the game went into halftime, 1-1.
At 61:44, Devils' sophomore forward Ricky La Stella (Bridgewater, N.J.) stepped up for a penalty shot but a diving save by Farmingdale State senior goalkeeper Scott Flores (Commack, N.Y.) kept the game tied at 1-1. Just 47 seconds later, FDU-Florham sophomore defender Nick Halpan (Bridgewater, N.J.) sent a cross in front to setup freshman midfielder Salvatore Vassallo (Verona, N.J.) for the goal to give the Devils the lead, 2-1.
The Rams would tally six shots down the stretch but were unable to find the back of the net as the Devils held on for the 2-1 victory.
Flores finished with seven saves, while FDU-Florham sophomore goalkeeper Parker Malman (Hollywood, Fla.) registered four saves in the win.
FSC next travels to Aviator-Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, N.Y. to play non-conference opponent Medgar Evers on Monday, September 10th at 7:30 p.m.
