
Farmingdale State - 3, Sarah Lawrence - 2 F/OT
Yonkers, N.Y. - With 1:47 remaining in overtime, Farmingdale State sophomore forward Carlos Rivera (Huntington Station, N.Y.) scored a penalty kick goal to lead the men's soccer team past Sarah Lawrence, 3-2. The Rams improved to 6-4 overall and 3-3 in conference action, while the Gryphons dropped to 4-9, 0-5.
Rivera opened the scoring 18:55 into the game as he netted the cross from senior midfielder John Kender (Farmingdale, N.Y.). The Rams held a 20-4 shot advantage in the first half and took their 1-0 lead into the break.
Sarah Lawrence evened the score at 1-1 with 35:28 remaining after freshman forward Camary Jonas (Kingston City, Jamaica) tallied a goal off the pass by freshman defender George Scott (New York, N.Y.). Only 2:57 later, the Gryphons took their first lead of the game, 2-1, as Jonas recorded his second goal of the night.
FSC freshman forward Thomas Hamel (Farmingdale, N.Y.) tied the score at 2-2 with 19:40 left on the clock after converting the through ball from junior midfielder Christian Campos (Huntington Station, N.Y.). Neither team would score over the final 19:40 of regulation as the game went to overtime.
With only 1:47 left to play in OT, Rivera's second goal of the evening gave the Rams the 3-2 road victory.
SLC senior goalkeeper Mehran Hicks (Hartsdale, N.Y.) recorded 16 saves in the loss.
Farmingdale State next will host Skyline opponent Mount Saint Mary for senior day on Saturday, October 14th at 2:30 p.m.
